Peat-free Gardening Guide

We're excited to share this guide aiming to help gardeners transition to growing peat-free. The Peat-free Partnership contributed in the development of this initiative, backed by over 20 organisations including the Peat-free Partnership and Defra, which provides practical advice to help gardeners succeed with peat-free compost while tackling common challenges like overwatering and underfeeding.

Peat-free works... differently!

In a survey of around 3000 British gardeners commissioned by Sizzle, it was found that while 67% of gardeners support sustainable composts, only 30% say they consistently buy peat-free. Peat extraction is one of the most damaging activities to our environment, with over 80% of the UK’s peatlands already damaged. These vital ecosystems are key to carbon storage, water regulation, and supporting biodiversity. By choosing peat-free compost, gardeners can make a meaningful impact in protecting these crucial natural resources.
