In a survey of around 3000 British gardeners commissioned by Sizzle, it was found that while 67% of gardeners support sustainable composts, only 30% say they consistently buy peat-free. Peat extraction is one of the most damaging activities to our environment, with over 80% of the UK’s peatlands already damaged. These vital ecosystems are key to carbon storage, water regulation, and supporting biodiversity.
